So, the hubster and I did a really big thing. We packed up our car and took our first family road trip to San Antonio, Texas. Although we’ve visited San Antonio before, this trip was different. On past trips, I’ve only had the opportunity to see San Antonio through the River Walk. However, on this trip we explored so much of the area. Keep on scrolling down to see all my recommendations for the ultimate weekend in San Antonio!

Click on the video below to see some highlights of our trip!

Where to Stay

There’s no shortage of great hotels in San Antonio. The St. Anthony Hotel was the perfect choice for our family. The hotel is located downtown and is within walking distance to the River Walk. This was great for us because we could take a quick walk back to our hotel room if Skyy needed to go down for a nap or to do a quick outfit change. This hotel was the perfect home base, and we walked and used our stroller for most of the trip.

Valet and self-parking options are available. If you’re traveling with a baby, there’s an elevator located on the side of the building if you need to go up with your stroller.

The pool deck and the views are amazing. I’ve already told the hubster that we need to come back in the summer. The cozy loungers and cabanas are perfect to relax in after a day of sightseeing. There’s also a cabana bar that’s open during the summer season.

Our room was very spacious and super cozy. We had plenty of space to set up Skyy’s bassinet and the shower in our bathroom was huge! The St. Anthony Hotel is also very iconic, so don’t forget to check out the green book in your room that details the property’s history.

Skyy sleeps with a humidifier, and I totally forgot to pack hers. I was prepared to head to the nearest drugstore but decided to give the front desk a call to see if any were available. I also inquired to see if any mini-fridges were available so we could store her bottles. Within minutes a humidifier and mini-fridge were delivered to our room! The service at this property is out of this world!

I have to give a shout out to the bellmen at the St. Anthony Hotel. I was a little anxious about all the luggage we packed (most of it was Skyy’s) and how we’d manage getting everything up to our room. The bellhops at this hotel are great! They unpacked our car in a breeze and escorted us to our room. When it was time to check out, they loaded our luggage on a cart and helped load it back into our car.

Where to Eat

Dining out in San Antonio was one of the biggest highlights of our trip. There are so many outstanding restaurants to choose from! I didn’t have time to visit all the restaurants on my list but here are a few faves.

Boudro’s Texas Bistro

A visit to San Antonio isn’t complete without dining at Boudro’s. I visit every time I’m in San Antonio. The restaurant is perfect for an afternoon lunch or dinner and is located on the River Walk. I recommend making reservations because the restaurant is super popular. Some of my favorite menu items are the fresh guacamole (prepared tableside), prickly pear margarita, and coconut shrimp.

Commonwealth Coffee House

This restaurant is so good that we visited twice! We went on Saturday morning for brunch and went back before heading home on Sunday. The croissants are to-die-for and we loved the casual location at Hemisfair.

I loved the food and ambiance at this pizza spot! It was a short walk from our hotel and the pizzas are so good!

Gallery on the Park

This beautiful restaurant is located on the first floor of the St. Anthony Hotel. We stopped here for a relaxing bite before heading out to sightsee.

Bud’s Rotisserie at the Bottling Department Food Hall

There are some delicious selections within this food hall, but Bud’s Rotisserie is one of my faves. Order up one of their jambalaya bowls with chicken and you will NOT be disappointed.

Other Restaurants on My List:

Babies are super unpredictable, so I wasn’t able to try all the restaurants on my list. Here are a few others that have Instaworthy menus that are great options during your trip:

Burgerteca - If you’re in the mood for a burger, check out this spot for Mexican-inspired burgers

La Panaderia - This bakery is very popular and is a quick walk from the St. Anthony Hotel. It’s a great option for grabbing coffee, sandwich, or torta.

Botika - In the mood for something different? This restaurant has a Peruvian-Asian themed menu

Nonna - If you’re in the mood for upscale Italian then try this spot! If you’re in the mood for steak then head over to Silo Prime, it’s sister restaurant located next door.

Fun Things to Do

Take a Go Rio Cruise on the River Walk

This activity was on my San Antonio bucket list for the longest! I’m so happy I finally got to knock it off my list. Our 30-minute cruise along the River Walk was fun, yet relaxing. During our cruise, we learned a lot about the River Walk and the establishments along it.

**Mom Tip** I recommend baby wearing for this activity. I put Skyy in her sling, and she fell asleep within minutes of the ride.

Visit the San Antonio Missions

Four out of five of the city’s Missions are located here. It was really cool exploring them and learning about their history.

Check out the McNay Art Museum

Have some playtime at Hemisfair Park

This park is wonderful for families to enjoy. The splash area is perfect for hot days and there are lots of loungers and play areas.

Take A Stroll Along the River Walk

A trip to San Antonio isn’t complete without exploring the River Walk. Don’t forget to stop by Lone Star Cafe for a fun photo by their famous buffalo! The Sebastian Art Exhibit is a cool stop along the River Walk at the River Walk Public Art Garden.

Mom Tip: The River Walk can get very crowded on the weekends. At night, I felt a little uncomfortable navigating through the crowds with my stroller. I definitely recommend baby wearing whenever possible which made the walk along the River Walk much more enjoyable!

Visit the Briscoe Western Art Museum

Get Some Instaworthy Pics at San Antonio’s Coolest Murals

Did you know there’s a Cardi B mural in San Antonio! There was no way I was leaving without getting a pic! The Cardi B mural is located at 802 San Pedro Ave., but there are lots of other cool murals in Midtown. Others can be found at the I-35 Underpass at St. Mary’s and Quincy.
