The Best Food Truck Tour in Austin Texas: Austin Eats Food Tours

The food truck scene in Austin is serious. The city is home to over 800 food trucks and trailers. I've traveled to Austin a few times, but have always found the Food Truck scene to be slightly overwhelming. It would literally take you weeks, maybe even months to visit every single truck or trailer. 

During my weekend trip to Austin, I wanted to take a stab at exploring the Austin food truck scene. Instead of relying on recommendations, I took matters into my own hands and booked the Best of Austin Food Trucks Tour with Austin Eats Food Tours. The tour promised to take us around to some of Austin's best food truck stops while riding around in an executive bus. I had never been on a food tour, so I was extremely intrigued with the concept. 

The tour met at Republic Square Park promptly at 10 a.m. Our tour guide Scott gave the group of 20 or so passengers a brief rundown of what we could expect during the two hour tour. I wasn't really attention to his speel because I couldn't help but notice a box of goodies that he was holding. 

A few minutes later, he opened the box containing Golden Eggs from Sandra Bullock's restaurant Walton's Fancy and Staple. Golden Eggs were the perfect name to describe the yellow cake batter bites dipped in melted butter and cinnamon sugar. After enjoying that sweet treat, we walked over to two vendors at the Farmer's Market for some migas breakfast tacos, and chocolate covered cocoa beans.

Next up, we boarded the bus to get the real food truck party started. The bus was super comfortable and had a cooler filled with beers, and ciders, and non-alcoholic beverages. During the tour, you can sip on a beer of your choice. Scott then told us that we were on our way to one of the most infamous BBQ spots in Austin, La Barbecue. 

I was super stoked about this stop. The wait at La Barbecue can easily be two hours or more and we DID NOT HAVE TO WAIT IN LINE.

This tour stop alone, makes the cost of the food truck tour so worth it. We simply got off the bus, sat at a picnic table, and Scott placed this huge pan of barbecue goodness on the table.

I was full by the 4th stop but forced myself to keep eating. I really loved the variety of stops on the tour and their uniqueness. It was awesome to be able to try cuisine at so many food trucks without having to worry about driving and finding parking. 

Don't hesitate to book the Austin Eats Food Truck Tour during an Austin visit. The tour will run you about $80 per person but its well worth the costs considering the amount of stops, alcohol, and transportation. The portions at each stop are also reasonable so you won't go hungry.
