Gumbo Goodness! The Gumbo Shop New Orleans, LA

You can't visit New Orleans without trying some of the local favorites! Gumbo was one of the main items on my New Orleans culinary to-do list. I was super excited when a fellow Blogger recommended that I visit the Gumbo Shop. Thanks @jessietaylortravels

The Gumbo Shop is located on St. Peter Street right behind Jackson Square. The location was perfect as I walked on over after leaving Cafe du Monde. The walk only took about 5 minutes. My husband and I decided to visit during lunch before heading off on a free Garden District walking tour. I'll talk more about that in another post.

My server Jamal was extremely friendly and recommended that I order the Honeydew Daiquiri. This was by far the BEST DRINK THAT I HAD IN NEW ORLEANS. Granted, I did taste quite a few but this drink was amazing!  I would seriously take a flight back to New Orleans just to sip on one of these delightful daiquiris. Ok, I'm slightly exaggerating but you get the point. This daiquiri was refreshing, fruity, and was made with fresh cut honeydew melon.

We ordered two different menu items so we could taste each others meals. I ordered the Chicken Andouille Gumbo while my husband chose the Jambalaya. Both dishes were fantastic! There was plenty of meat in my gumbo and I loved how it was served over fluffy white rice.

I expected the jambalaya to be spicy but it wasn't. I actually liked that it wasn't spicy but was flavorful and had just enough heat. The gumbo was perfect and was my favorite out of two gumbos I had ate during my trip.

The service at the Gumbo Shop is extremely fast. We were in and out within 40 minutes. The restaurant is also extremely affordable as our bill was less than $30. I will definitely go back to the Gumbo Shop during my next visit to New Orleans. Wanna learn more about the Gumbo Shop?
