Weekend Travel Guide: 5 Fun & Affordable Things to Do in Milwaukee, Wisconsin

I’ve knocked another city off my travel list…Milwaukee! If Milwaukee isn’t on your list of U.S. cities to visit then you should totally add it. I had the time of my life exploring the city, overindulging in dairy, wearing a cheesehead, and cheering on the Green Bay Packers. Check out the video below to see some highlights from my trip!

Flying to Milwaukee

I’m all about saving money when it comes to flights. I started searching for plane tickets about 3 weeks prior to my trip. I ended up spending $200 on 2 round trip Spirit Airlines tickets to Chicago O’Hare Airport. Milwaukee is only an 1.5 hour drive from it. You can also choose to fly directly into Milwaukee International Airport if you want to save on time.

Wheels for The Weekend

I was so excited that Mitsubishi Motors provided me with a 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport for my trip. This car was so much fun to drive. The ride was extremely comfortable and it was the perfect car to drive around the city. The car has an incredible panoramic glass roof and tons of other cool features. The lane departure warning system alerts you when you’re too close to another car or unintentionally leaving your lane. This was a great feature to have since I did lots of highway driving on Interstate 94-W.

Where to Stay

Milwaukee has many great hotels to choose from. If you’re looking for a hotel right in the heart of the city then the Westin Milwaukee is a great option. The hotel is absolutely gorgeous. I’ve stayed at many hotels during my travels and have yet to find a mattress that tops the Westin Heavenly Bed.

Five Fun & Affordable Things to Do

Taste & Explore the City with a Food Tour

I love going on culinary adventures. One of my favorite things to do, is to check out the best restaurants the city has to offer. However, this can be extremely difficult when you’re pressed on time or if you have a short weekend trip planned. Food tours are an excellent way to get a taste of the city without feeling overwhelmed by time constraints.

I’m a Cheesehead!

I had a blast on my food tour with Milwaukee Food & City Tours. There were 5 stops and I learned a lot about Milwaukee’s history. I won’t spill the beans on all the stops, but I ate the best salad of my life at Milwaukee’s famous Water Street Brewery. I knocked wearing a cheesehead off my bucket list during the stop at the Wisconsin Cheese Mart! Plus, I finally got to try fresh cheese curds. They’re so delicious!

Visit the Milwaukee Art Museum

Milwaukee Art Museum

I was amazed by this museum before I even went inside. The architecture is breathtaking. If you’re into museums then don’t leave without checking this one out. Don’t forget to take some pictures on the waterfront right behind the museum. The views of Milwaukee and Lake Michigan are incredible!

Explore the Milwaukee Public Market

Milwaukee Public Market

A visit to Milwaukee isn’t complete without exploring the Milwaukee Public Market. This market is one of Milwaukee’s most unique and popular food destinations. I couldn’t contain myself once I was inside! The building is filled with delicious food stalls, local vendors, and restaurants. One of my favorites is the St. Paul Fish Company. The restaurant is well known for its fresh seafood including lobster rolls and whole lobsters.

My First Whole Lobster!

This is going to sound unbelievable, but I never thought I’d eat my first whole lobster dinner in Milwaukee. The unbelievable part is that I only paid $16.95! That’s right, St. Paul Fish Company sells a whole Maine lobster dinner special with fries for $16.95!

Lobster Roll

My husband ordered a lobster roll that can compete with lobster rolls you’d find in Boston. The lobster was fresh, tender, and so delicious. The restaurant is extremely popular but the wait is more than worth it.

Grab a Juice at Urban Beets Cafe & Juicery

This cafe is a cool as it sounds. If you’re into juices and coffee then make a juice stop at Urban Beets.. My hubby and I enjoyed two green juices before heading off to our food tour. The juices are great plus the location has Insta-Worthy written all over it. I recommend stopping by before heading out to adventures for the day.

Attend a Green Bay Packers Game at Lambeau Field

Enjoying the game with family

Lambeau Field is only a two hour drive from Milwaukee and it’s a must for any true football fan. No matter what team you cheer for, you’v’e gotta acknowledge that Green Bay is one of the most cherished franchises in the NFL.

Holding Raven’s throwback Jersey after the game. Ignore my mismatched socks!

The Titletown experience is unlike any other. I had so much fun feeding off the energy of #PackersNation before I stepped foot inside Lambeau Field. My family and I had a blast at the game and it was so awesome seeing my cousin Raven Greene, Safety #36 do his thing on the field! If you’re looking for a dining option near the field then Longhorn Steakhouse is a great option. I highly recommend the Parmesan Crusted chicken!
